Maryam Faisal, a proud Muslim and Pakistani American, is currently attending Rice University in Houston Texas. Maryam's own experiences with an eating disorder as well the experiences of those that recovered with her inspired her to found the Lone Bench Initiative, a 501c3 nonprofit working to make eating disorder treatment more accessible for Muslims.

Maryam hopes to bring eating disorder treatment access to even more people, while simultaneously breaking the stereotypes regarding people of color with eating disorders and eating disorders within religious communities.
